A medical plan, with ongoing follow-up

Your evaluation considers weight and growth history, previous treatment, current medications, relevant health conditions, eating and activity patterns, sleep, and your goals. Care may combine nutrition and activity support, management of contributing factors, and medication when appropriate. Follow-up reviews progress, side effects, tolerability, and whether the plan needs to change.

GLP-1 prescribing and medication management

Empire Medical Wellness prescribes FDA-approved medications when a medical evaluation supports their use. Medication management includes selecting an appropriate option, reviewing risks and interactions, explaining use, and monitoring response over time. A consultation does not guarantee a prescription, insurance coverage, or a particular result. This service does not offer compounded GLP-1 products or investigational drugs such as retatrutide.

FDA-approved options for weight management

These are options to discuss during an evaluation, not interchangeable prescriptions:

  • Wegovy injection (semaglutide): a weekly GLP-1 option for eligible adults and adolescents age 12 and up with obesity. The higher-dose Wegovy HD formulation is an adult option.
  • Wegovy tablets (semaglutide): a daily oral GLP-1 option for eligible adults.
  • Saxenda (liraglutide): a daily injectable GLP-1 option for eligible adults and adolescents age 12 and up who meet the label’s obesity and weight requirements, including weight greater than 60 kilograms for the adolescent indication.
  • Zepbound (tirzepatide): a weekly medication that acts on both glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptors for eligible adults.
  • Foundayo (orforglipron): a daily oral GLP-1 medication for eligible adults.

The applicable diagnosis, formulation, approved age range, contraindications, treatment goals, and current availability guide selection. These medicines are used with appropriate nutrition and physical-activity changes.

How are Ozempic and Mounjaro different?

Ozempic and Rybelsus contain semaglutide and have diabetes indications; Mounjaro contains tirzepatide and is also approved for type 2 diabetes. They are not FDA-approved weight-loss brands. Other GLP-1 medicines, including Trulicity and liraglutide products for diabetes, also have their own indications. Your evaluation determines whether an obesity medication or a different treatment fits your medical needs. Do not combine these medications on your own.

Child and adolescent obesity medicine

The practice evaluates children 8 and up, adolescents, and adults. This does not mean GLP-1 weight-management medicines are approved starting at age 8. Of the products listed here, qualifying adolescent weight-management indications begin at age 12 for Wegovy injection and Saxenda. The listed tablets, Wegovy HD, and Zepbound are adult options under the reviewed labels. Children receive age-appropriate assessment and planning, with parent or guardian involvement and coordination with other clinicians when appropriate.

Safety is part of medication management

Your physician reviews your medical history, other medicines, pregnancy plans, and potential side effects before prescribing. These medicines can cause gastrointestinal effects and have important warnings, including pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, dehydration-related kidney problems, and thyroid C-cell tumor warnings. A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2 can make these treatments unsuitable. Review the specific medication guide with your clinician; this overview does not replace it.
